January 5, 2007

Happy New Year to everyone from all of us at Platteville Area Modelers R/C Club! It's always a great start to the new year when the weather makes flying possible. And possible it was today. Gray skies, but with upper 40's for temps, calm winds and no precipitation, it was go, go, go for three club members. Kodak, Marc and Roger gathered at the North Field to enjoy some Winter flying. It was mentioned that it is a rarity to be able to enjoy the sport in January, and it had not been possible for quite a number of years. Kodak flew one of his SPAD's and his Ugly Stick.. Marc flew his Mayhem, and Roger brought his Aircore. Kodak put both planes through some quality airtime.. it's hard to believe that one year ago, he had never flown an r/c plane nor did he own one. Now, he owns several, is a super flier and designs and builds planes. Marc flies with what appears to be such ease, that one tends to forget, watching the plane, that it requires the skill and many decades of flying that Marc has, to make it appear so effortless. Roger is another of the long time fliers in the club that seems to be at one with the plane also. Watching his plane just takes your breath away at times...he seems to be able to get a plane to do almost anything. Anyway.. on with the pictures. We managed to get Kodak pics today... high time he is on the other side of the camera for a change.

No lack of snow today, and no lack of fun for Kodak and Bart. The two added a new item to their Winter flying today. It is pictured leaning against Kodak's truck. But fun was easily had today. Newly designed Kodak special SPAD, newly designed Kodak special skis, and newly initiated to snow flying.... SPAD flew just like it should... skis did what they were supposed to do, and luckily, Bart ventured along and had fun being an R/C photographer. Great job Kodak.... and great job Bart the photographer.... here ya go!

March 20 something, 2007

Kodak and his dad, Leon, met at the North field today.... Early, early morning, to get the field rolled after the previous night's rainstorm. Kodak got everything ready to go, then left things in the capable hands of his dad. You might notice the newly repaired and painted roller. Since we're interested in packing down the bumps in the turf, Green Bay Packer colors seemed appropriate for the roller. This way, we have a Packer packer.:)
The rolling was a great help to the field. Both pilots and planes will appreciate the smoother turf this summer.

March 24, 2007

A foggy Saturday morning found Kodak and his friend Bart at the North field. The fog had socked things in pretty well after having lifted for a couple of hours earlier. At any rate, the scene was surreal as Kodak got the roller ready on his mower, and prepared to once more roll the cross wind runway. Bart offered to work on rolling while Kodak worked at other things, so by the time the fog had lifted for good, Bart had most of the turf rolled. (Big thank you, Bart!)
So, from lawn roller to photographer, Bart switched hats and got some good pics of Kodak flying. Due to the grayness of the day, the air pics look as gray as the day was. But, better days are coming, and any day in the air is a good day! Soon, more planes will be out and about on these weekend days. Until then, enjoy the pics.

April 2007

Doc tried out one of his many Sig planes today, with his first of the season flight, and Kodak flew his new pizza box flyer....freshly finished over the weekend. Both planes flew with great success! Good work.

An absolutely April Day, 2007

On an April day, which was perfect, (so far as April days go), Roger, Mark F. and Kodak gathered to get in some flying time. Roger was flying his new Trainer, Mark got in some quality air time, and is doing great for a new flyer. Kodak flew one of his SPADs, and all three had a great time together. First, Roger with his new trainer, then his Super Sportster...wow, what a sharp plane! Then we have Mark F. with his Kadet. Enjoy...

A Couple of Late April Days

After getting a tad more than our share of April showers, the weather cleared to give a few of the club members some flying time. Unfortunately, we traded rain for wind, so flying was a bit tricky at times. First we have Doc and his Sig Something Extra. Doc is not only a great builder, but he is also a great flyer... a treat to watch for sure.
Next pictures are Kodak flying his new Pizza Box Flyer. The wind proved to be quite a challenge for PBF flying, and it ran into a little air turbulence followed immediately by a sudden stop, as pictured. But, the great thing about SPADs is their durability. The sudden "stop" which would have made splinters of a balsa plane proved no more damaging to the PBF than a broken prop. That was replaced, and as the next pic shows, Kodak was off and flying again. He is also pictured tuning up one of his DPS SPADs. On to the pictures.... enjoy... we surely do enjoy providing a few pictures of our flying. Photographers on these were Kodak and Bart.

April-2007

A fine weekend day found Mark F. and Kodak at the field. Mark had been busy spraying weeds, and then joined Kodak in some fun flying with his Nexstar and his Kadet. Mark is one of the newest members of the club and has already soloed. He is doing a great job with flying and on this day, worked on some aerobatic maneuvers. He did a super job with loops and we promise to catch a few pics next time. Way to go, Mark, we're glad you joined Platteville Area Modelers!

Early May, 2007

An impromptu, after work evening, found Mark, Kodak, and club president Dick at the field. Kodak flew his SPAD DPS and Pizza Box Flyer, and Mark flew his Nexstar... he made his first blacktop runway landing tonight, and did a super job of it, we might add! He's already a good flyer and we are all proud of him. No photos of those two, but we do have a few of Dick and his Four Star 60. Everyone is getting used to some decent flying weather after the non stop winds we have had for days on end.
