Labor Day Weekend 2007
What a nice weekend! After several very wet weeks in August, we've had a couple of wonderful weekends. Scrapped are the plans for the water floats we all had started drawing up for our planes during the rainy season. We're back to nice green grass again, and boy... are we glad for that.
Many planes were in the air during this long holiday weekend. Kodak's Pizza Box Flyer, Mark F.'s NJ1 and... the maiden flight of his Giant Super Sportster.... we even have a picture of him after finishing the flight, hands in the air! Doc was flying the Mayhem, Marshall was flying the NJ1 Pinkie and his Streak Racer... man, does that plane move. Yowzers! Dick flew his Balsa Nova 120 and Roger flew one of his electrics.
Mid September 2007
Brats, good food and a good time was had by all today. Only a couple of reminders of the day, but an excellent turn out by club members kept things hopping! We never quite all got in the same spot for a picture, so you'll have to make due with the few who stopped long enough for a quick shot.
A couple of October weekends combined
We'll start the pictures off with the first of the combined weekends. Team Shelstrom (Doc and son Marshall) flew the Something Extra and this pair dominated the sky! What a great couple of guys and excellent flyers to boot. We combined some field maintenance with the flying and it passed by quickly. The second weekend was the club's first annual Chili Fly. Although this was hastily organized, we had a good turn out. There were people at the field all day, and we're planning to do it again next year. There's nothing like a nice hot bowl of chili on a cool October day. That, and good company makes a winning day every time. Kodak got some flying time in with his electric Super Zoom, and also with his PBF and a couple of other SPADS. The Super Zoom is a fun plane to see him fly... and he does a great job with it. Nick Weber stopped by and he always is a joy to watch fly. He brought several SPADS. One of which is a gasser... great plane. Great pilot. Mark F. brought several planes also. One of them was his Jet. That plane really travels, but we managed to get pictures of it as it zoomed by! Mark also flew his Super Sportster gasser... a big and beautiful plane. Nick, Kodak and Mark flew a few rounds of combat...There were some bumps and ouchies... some evident immediately, some took a bit longer to be noticed. (Never laugh at another pilot's misfortune.. it's a sure way to invite a visit from the DAMAGE GREMLINS!) Nick made it through unharmed, as is evident in the picture of him smiling as he carries his streamer laden plane off the field. One of the photos shows Nick's (on the right) and Kodak's planes on the ground after round one. It was a great day though. We'll get those force fields installed on the combat planes before we go at it again. :)
One of the greatest happenings of the day was when one of the club's new members, Trevor, brought his helicopter to the field. With help from Nick and Kodak, Trevor maidened the heli. No small feat to accomplish, considering that Trevor had never flown the heli before. Heck, he had never flown anything before! It's a testimonial to preparing with lots of practice on a simulator, and lots of research on the aircraft he built himself. Way to go, Trevor! We are all so proud of your accomplishment! Welcome to Platteville Area Modelers. Now, on to the pictures. They should be fairly self explanatory. One extra one amongst them is Kodak's dad, Leon, who stopped by for the morning and enjoyed a bowl of Kodak's great chili. Some other club members missed the chili, but enjoyed a few hours at the field. On to the Pictures.
Early November 2007
Knowing full well that Winter is sneaking up fast, lots of members showed up for the meeting this month. Hoping to get at least one quick flight in between the gusty winds of the day, hopes were answered late in the afternoon. We have pictures from this day of Andy's Tiger trainer and his military plane, Doc's Something Extra, Mark's club build NJ1 , Marshall's Pinky . Great flights, guys! Enjoy the pics this time.... hopefully, there won't be snow soon. Or........ we'll have to get the skis out! Yup, we're ready for almost anything :)
A nice November Saturday, 2007
A Saturday field work day resulted in an amazing amount of work accomplished. Overgrown trees had been not only a problem for the field's property owner as they were damaging some of the buildings, but the trees were, at times, plane grabbers. Both the club and the property owner agreed they needed to be removed before more property damage resulted.
Nearly every club member showed up, ready to work... and work they did! By the end of the day, the transformation was amazing. Special thanks go to Kodak for organizing the event and supplying chainsaws and equipment, Dick,Wendell and Roger for checking on details, Trevor for the loader, and Mark, Doc, Andy, Tom, Marshall, Leon, Janet and Bart for the hours and hours of work they donated for the sake of the club.
"Thank you" can't even begin to cover the appreciation we have for this day. There's always a sense of pride to see results such as were attained, but also, to know that Platteville Area Modelers has club members that give so much for their club.... it's.... well, it's heartwarming, for lack of a better word. Now, a few pictures.. Not many, as more time was spent working than taking pictures.
This winds up the pictures for 2007. Please continue on to Gallery 8 for the first of our 2008 Platteville Area Modelers photos.
