Welcome to Platteville Area Modelers R/C Club's pictures for 2008.

January 2008

First, we'd like to wish all of you a very Happy New Year. There... at least you know there's still life at the Platteville Area Modelers club. Here in southwestern Wisconsin, we are experiencing quite a Winter. Actually, the snow started long before the official beginning of Winter. We had a doozy of an ice storm, then snow following right on the ice storm's heels. And, save a few days of more decent temps and precipitation, we've pretty much been in a snow/ice/fog weather pattern. Don't think we haven't been thinking about flying. Santa brought one of the club members a nice, new G 4 simulator, and several other members have simulators, so we're still getting some flying in. Even if it's virtual flying.... and we're looking forward to Spring. A couple of people have had planes with skis out, but no pictures yet. Just no luck getting planes and cameras in the same place at the same time. So, rest assured, we're still here.... shoveling snow, chipping ice and daydreaming about r/c flying.
See you with some pictures soon!

The much hoped for warm up has started. For how many days, we're not sure, but it is much appreciated for however long it lasts. Grey and windy, but temps in the lower 40s urged Kodak out for a spin with the electric Super Zoom. Snow is still deep, the wind was not always cooperative, but thanks to Amy G. who braved the elements, we have pictures! Thanks so much Amy... you are a dear heart. So, without further ado... the pictures.

*whew* We made it through the Winter! And what a Winter it was... record breaking snows that none of us care to see again anytime soon. there was some early Spring activity at the field this month, as a few club members cleaned up the last of our tree removal project from last Fall. We had a few fliers that day also, but no pictures. This day, however, was different. Kodak brought his 300 Extra out for some airtime. It will be the red and white plane pictured. Mark F. had one of his new NJ1s out for a flight or three. It will be the yellow plane in these photos... and he also had a SPAD he built this Winter. It was out for its maiden voyage on this day. Its blue and white with the Navy insignias on the wings. Mark looks happy with it! Trevor is pictured with his heli also. He's getting very proficient with it and has flown it with great expertise under some less than perfect conditions. Way to go, Trevor! Now, on with the show.... Springtime... gotta love it!

April 26-27 2008

A few flying this weekend as recorded by Mark French's photographs and commentary.
First two are of Doc's first few flights of the year-warming up the thumbs. Pinky had a new TTpro 46 engine which performed great, unlimited vertical.
Next two are of Trevor. He had some amazing flights doing figure eights and what not. All in the wind!
Last two photos are the maiden flights of Mark's new Smoothie. Plane was fast and very SMOOTH.
Way to go guys!

Sunday, Early May, 2008

Now this day.... this day was the day we were all daydreaming about when the cold Winter winds blew and the cold Winter snow was the only thing flying! What a great way to spend a Sunday.... Great friends, great food, and great flying. Brats, hot dogs and many other goodies were on the menu as the club held one of the many cookouts it holds each year. Photos this time show a few of the many planes assembled, a few caught in the sky, a few of the club members assembled as we could get them to stand still long enough. Kodak had his newly finished combat SPAD and Mark F. had the second of his newly build combat SPADs, just to name a few of the many new planes that graced the sky. Lots of planes for club members to admire.... old and new. Roger brought some of his, and Wendell some of his planes. All in all, everyone agreed that a better day just couldn't be had. Now, on to a few of the pictures...

Although the weatherman threatened showers for part of the day, several of the club members made good use of the day anyway. Trevor, Nick, Mark F., Doc and Kodak enjoyed both flying and viewing the combat action of the day. Combat might make you think of demolition derby, but in fact, combat this day was all in good fun. Planes trailing black streamers see if they can fly close enough to cut another plane's streamer without getting their's cut. It gets interesting to watch! We had combat SPADs and a SPAD pizza box, and other new and intriguing inventions that were maidened. It was another fun day. A few of the pictures follow.

July 2, 2008

Well, in case any of you think we've forgotten how to fly, nope.. we haven't. There's been lots of activity at the field when the weather permits, but since other tasks of the non-flying sort have kept Kodak closer to home, we've been lacking in the photo department. Not lots of them to show you this time either, but.... one very important one. Club member Tom Covert celebrated a solo flight the evening of June 30th! A solo flight is always reason to celebrate, as are our new club members.... so, although the website has been a bit quiet, Platteville Area Modelers has been a busy club! Now, Way to go, Tom! We're happy for you!

July 6, 2008

A beautiful holiday weekend was condensed into one day of field work, club meeting and flying. We have pictures this time of Doc's new Four Star Sixty... and Mark French's newly built Uproar. Both are stunning planes with excellent workmanship.
Days like this one, even with the wind factor thrown in for a little excitement, make all of us appreciate a super summer day.

July 23, 2008

Kodak made it to the field tonight and got not only some flying time in with his heli and SuperZoom, but also caught some photos. We have Trevor with the NJ1 doing some incredible flying. For being a new flyer, he can teach all of us a few tricks with his aerial moves. Doc flew his CD-120... beautiful plane whether it's in flight or on the ground. Mark flew his Super Sportster, NJ1 and his Jet. Mark is a very prolific plane builder, so he almost always has something new and different. Great flying done by everyone tonight! Now, on to the pictures....

August 3, 2008

Club meeting and cookout today... another great day to be flying. (And eating all the yummy cookout treats!) The afternoon brought some nice planes out to stretch their wings. Trevor's NJ1, Mark had several out exercising them today.. a few in the pictures.. Uproar, Something Extra, and his Hell on Rails SPAD. Kodak took his SPAD for a spin and captured a few photos to boot. Dick and Trevor exchanged some flying tips and tricks. Some people flying, some eating and some just watching the pilots and planes. Fun day! Enjoy!

August 2008

Here are a couple of shots of Doc's maiden of the 4 Star 60 with new Thunder Tiger 91 4 stroke. Approach, perfect two wheel landing, taxi back to the pit. Photos thanks to Mark French.

August 17,2008

Well, if you were looking for a perfect Summer day, today was it... and many hours of the day were spent flying. Planes weren't the only things flying either... Trevor maidened the new engine in his heli, and if you'll notice the black arrow in the upper right corner of one of the photos of Kodak, you'll notice a swallow that joined in the sky dance of Kodak's Super Zoom. He put on a great show of r/c 3-D flying, plus great flying with his electric heli. Trevor's heli aerobatics WOWed not only club members, but also visitors who came to watch the show. Dick flew two absolutely SUPER flights with textbook perfect landings with his Four Star... and Mark French made r/c flying look easy with his Uproar and his Super Sportster. All in all, the flying today matched the weather... it couldn't get much better! Enough.... on with the photos.

September- A couple of weekends combined

The weather has been in a dry spell this Summer, so when the opportunity arises, club members fly! These are some shots of Doc's Pinky, Mark's Gasser Stick, Kodak's 300 and his heli, Trevor's heli and NJ1, Dick's 4 Star and no doubt, several not mentioned. Back flying after a Spring and Summer off the field was Roger, flying one of his many planes. Roger has been much missed this flying season and we are so happy to welcome him back and hope his health is good to go from this point on. So, without further comments... on with the photos.

October, 2008

There has been more flying than photography going on for the past few weeks, so we'll leave you with a few to look at for now. We'll get more wordy later. :)
